Welcome to the Cockhaven Arms

The Cockhaven Arms, located in the quiet village of Bishopsteignton, at the foot of Haldon Moor and overlooking the lovely Teign Estuary is a perfect location to relax and explore.

Downstairs retains much of its traditional character but has been opened up to create a lovely bar and restaurant with wood burners and an intimate and cosy atmosphere.

We offer 14 well appointed en-suite rooms with great facilities. All bedrooms have powerful showers, hair dryers, tea & coffee making facilities and flat screen TVs. Three rooms offer a balcony with spectacular views of the Teign Estuary.

Outside, there is a large beer garden with lovely views of the estuary, along with plenty of car parking.

Drinking & Dining

Our menu offers the best of local and seasonal produce.

Featuring freshly prepared dishes ranging from pub classics to contemporary English cuisine. Vegetarians have a particularly good choice.

To supplement all this is a daily specials board for sharing dishes and rarer treats, depending on what seasonal fare the Head Chef has been able to find. There is also a Children’s menu and some of the main dishes are also available in smaller portions.

On behalf of the team, we look forward to welcoming you soon!

Best Inn We Have Stayed At

"My husband & I stayed here 12 - 17 June and what a great place this is!! We had a double room with a terrace, overlooking the lovely garden and estuary (Room 11). Our friends joined us for a day and we all had a beautiful lunch. I actually asked the landlady if the chef was Michelin-starred, because the food was so good!! You really need to come here and sample what this Inn is made of!! ”

Wonderful, refreshing break - Highly recommend.

"A happy coincidence my partner booked our break at this little gem, somewhere I'd stayed on business pre-Covid. Booked a last minute break down to Devon, and on arrival were delighted to find our room had far-reaching views over to the estuary and beyond. The room was a suite, with a cosy lounge, generous bathroom and comfortable and well appointed sunny bedroom. Breakfast was superb; a wonderful choice, all freshly cooked to order and the same was true of evening dinner - delicious and clearly a very popular spot for an evening meal. Our thanks to Emma, Francis, Andy, Tom & Alex and all the team for a really wonderful break - we've returned home refreshed and look forward to returning soon - oh, and to say we'll return with our dog too!!

Excellent family run hotel and pub

"We had a great stay for the third time as this is now our first thought when visiting elderly relatives in the area. Great welcome with a relaxed and well stocked bar on arrival. A bigger room than expected, a very comfortable bed and views of the estuary. Breakfast is always great value, with an extensive choice.”

Lovely little hotel

"We were pleasantly surprised by this lovely hotel. My husband booked it as it is dog friendly, although in the end we decided not to take our dog. Our room and bathroom were both immaculate. There was complimentary water, which is always welcome for non tea/coffee drinkers!

We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was absolutely delicious. We can definitely recommend the pies! The breakfasts are also very god and coked to order.

Staff are very friendly as are the locals who drink in the bar. We would certainly go back next time we are in the area.”

Great place to stay!

"We stayed at the Cockhaven Arms on Saturday evening, it 's a lovely place to stay, the rooms are amazing, really big & very very clean. We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening, as we were going to a party, but the breakfast was delicious. I highly recommend, the staff are so friendly & nothing was too much trouble.

Lovely overnight stay, great food and great service

"We booked a last minute overnight stay and we were made to feel very welcome from arrival.

The evening meal and breakfast were superb with a great atmosphere. We fell in love with Harvey the pub dog!

Beautiful place, great pub / restaurant with very comfortable rooms, an absolute pleasure for our last night in Devon!”

Such a lovely visit

"My son was getting married at a nearby venue and we were so pleased to find Cockhaven Arms , who were able to accommodate 10 of us. We couldn’t have found a better place to stay. The staff are so lovely and friendly also patient as my room requirements changed a number of times before the Big Day! Breakfast the next morning was truly wonderful, we were all on one big table so we were able to chat about the wedding. Everyone’s breakfast choices were happily met and all arrived at the same time. Thank you very much Frances for all your help. I really hope to return and spend more time the Cockhaven Arms soon”

Cockhaven Arms excels

"Very friendly staff ! Emma, the Manager was very friendly, helpful and mixed in with the guests very well, as well as being very efficient (*****)
14 rooms in the hotel. Our room (No.9) was small but adequate for our 4 day stay.
Adequate car parking and close to Exeter and Teignmouth
Breakfast, cooked to order, was excellent and we only had evening meal once, but food was excellent as well.
Outdoor sitting area to relax and have drinks”

What an absolute gem

"Having been caught in a huge traffic jam only a mile from this hotel we arrived frazzled and in need of a drink. Not quite on the water but with glimpses of the sea ourroom was spacious, spotless and well met our expectations. Dinner was truly exceptional. If you try the "to share" home made sour dough cob loaf with oven baked local Camembert make sure there are at least four of you to do justice to this brilliant starter / entree. Truly mouth watering! The fresh made pie of the day was equally good, thin shortcrust stuffed with turkey and cranberry and the prawns wrapped in procutto on savoury rice equally good. Never judge a book by its cover as this is a gem”

Very worthy of 5 Stars !

"We had a very nice stay at the Cockhaven Arms. Everything was perfect - large and immaculately clean room, excellent breakfast and a hearty meal in the bar in the evening. All the staff were very welcoming and professional. Would definitely stay here again if we're in the area”

Perfect to dine and stay.

"We are in the process of moving home a couple of miles from the Inn so it was the perfect spot for an overnight stay. We were allocated room 8, a large king size with a stupendous bathroom that included a free standing bath, separate shower and dual sinks - still with enough room for a quick tango.
We booked dinner and the restaurant is quirky reflecting the Inns history. Food is excellent and neither the bar or wine prices induce that sinking feeling.
Even better it is very dog friendly ( expect a warm welcome from Harvey the pub labrador), once we have moved this will become a regular spot to eat out at.”

Well deserving of 5*

Really enjoyed our few nights stay here, massive, comfortable, clean room and en suite, excellent nights sleep. Lovely quiet location but just a short walk to the bus stop for Teignmouth etc if you fancy leaving the car behind for the day. Couldn’t fault this hotel, staff were great, breakfast delicious and we were there for Steak Night which was a bonus. Highly recommend.”
